Two trims sounds simple, and honestly, it mostly is. But there are enough differences between them that it's worth a few minutes to sort out which one fits you. Here's everything we know, pulled straight from Subaru.

First, What Both Trims Share

Before we split hairs, let's cover the big stuff, because the two trims are identical where it counts most.

• Same hybrid powertrain. A 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER engine works with electric motors and a high-capacity lithium-ion battery for 194 horsepower combined. Subaru calls it a series-parallel hybrid, which means the car can run on gas, electric, or both, depending on what you're asking of it.
• Same range and efficiency. Subaru quotes an EPA-estimated 598 miles on a single tank, and the EPA rates it at 36 mpg combined. That's a meaningful jump over the gas-only Crosstrek.
• Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is standard. This isn't a front-drive hybrid with AWD tacked on. Subaru integrated the hybrid system into the existing Crosstrek architecture, so you keep the full-time AWD, X-MODE with Hill Descent Control, and 8.7 inches of ground clearance.
• Same tech up front. Both trims get the 11.6-inch Subaru Multimedia Plus System with built-in navigation and a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included.
• Same safety suite. EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is standard, plus blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency steering, and emergency lane keep assist on both hybrid trims.

The Sport Hybrid is the more playful of the pair, and it shows in the details. You get Sport Cloth upholstery with yellow contrast stitching, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and hybrid-exclusive 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels in dark gray. It's a look that says you'd rather be on a trail than in a boardroom.

It's not stripped down, though. Standard equipment includes:

• All-Weather Package with heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, and a windshield wiper de-icer (you'll thank us in January)
• 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat with 2-way lumbar support

One thing worth knowing: for 2027, the gas-only Crosstrek Sport has been discontinued. If you want a Sport, it's a hybrid. That's not a bad thing, since the Sport Hybrid gets more standard safety gear than last year's gas Sport ever did.

Step up to the Limited Hybrid and the cabin gets noticeably more refined. The seats are wrapped in perforated gray StarTex upholstery with orange stitching. StarTex is Subaru's durable, water-resistant material, so it handles wet dogs and muddy kids better than leather while still looking upscale. The 18-inch wheels get a dark gray machine finish, and the exterior mirrors add integrated turn signals.

Beyond the Sport Hybrid's equipment, the Limited Hybrid adds:

• Harman Kardon 10-speaker audio system with a 432-watt equivalent amplifier
• Heated leather-wrapped steering wheel
• DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System

One thing to note on the moonroof: for 2027, the power moonroof is standard on the Limited Hybrid. On 2026 models, it was part of a $1,600 option package that also added a 360-degree Surround View Monitor, which gives you a bird's-eye camera view of the car when parking. So if you're looking at a 2026 Limited Hybrid on our lot, check whether it has that package. If you're buying a 2027, the moonroof is already included.

For $2,000 more than the Sport, you're mostly paying for the sound system, the heated wheel, and a couple of extra driver-assist features If you spend a lot of time behind the wheel, that's money well spent. If you'd rather keep the payment down and don't mind cloth seats, the Sport Hybrid gives up very little.

Hybrid-Only Colors Worth a Look

Subaru saved a few colors just for the hybrid. Sapphire Blue Pearl is new for 2027 and exclusive to hybrid models. Sand Dune Pearl and Citron Yellow Pearl are also hybrid-only, offered as $395 premium paint. If you want your Crosstrek to stand out in the parking lot at Poets' Walk, Citron Yellow will do it.

Is the Crosstrek Hybrid a plug-in?

No. The current Crosstrek Hybrid is a conventional (self-charging) hybrid. The battery recharges as you drive and brake, so there's nothing to plug in and no charger to install. Subaru's earlier Crosstrek Hybrid, sold through the 2023 model year, was a plug-in, which is where some of the confusion comes from.
